scrapbook - October 2010

“So what’s new with the show?” everyone asks. Well, we are somewhat in the sit and wait period now. The show will be available to public television stations across the country on December 16th. We understand that they may start airing it anytime from then. To find out if your public television station will carry our show and at what times, we will have something called a “program finder” that gives you your specific information when you type in your zip code. We will have this feature up and running mid-December.
However, in the meantime, there have been things to do! Matt and I have been busy adding a new section to our website that we will launch mid-December. You will find it on the Topic Menu on the right side of all our pages. It’s the new “around the house” section.
When you click on the “around the house” button, you will go to a whole new world of Matt and Shari information. The design is just like our main website so it integrates well and you will feel right at home browsing through the table of contents. I thought you might get a kick out of seeing how we “design” our website. I sit in Florida drawing pictures, I scan them, e-mail them to Matt in Ohio and he makes it happen!
This “around the house” home page lists all 13 shows in the first season with a description of what you will see in the show and a list of all of the projects from each show. You will know which show you are watching because at the end of each one, we announce the show number and during the show we mention the theme a couple times.

The project sheets are just like the ones in our main site. They are full of photos, materials lists, full instructions and they are printable. You will be able to shop for “around the house” T-shirts and mugs, we have complied an informational sponsors page that describes all of the wonderful companies that believed in us and helped us get season one on the air. We will have photos pages of the taping of season one and you will be able to navigate to our own mstv and then back to our main site if you wish.
We are so excited about this new addition to mattandshari.com and we hope you will be too. For those of you who have signed up to be on our newsletter mailing list, we will send out a postcard notifying you that the new section is up and running. Others can just check back to see if we have the section completed.
It’s just the beginning of a new era! Matt and I are currently searching for sponsors for seasons 2 and 3! We will be shooting more shows in both April and September of next year so we keep up the momentum. If you or someone you know is in a related business and would like to be an “around the house” sponsor, let us know at

April and May found Matt and I very busy shooting our new season for public television. Weeks beforehand we spent hours building the season from what projects we wanted to show to how best to put them together in some sort of lightly “themed” shows.
We rounded our second season out with some new additions. Guests were added to bring a fresh perspective and we had a lot of fun with them in the shop, around the house and even sewing! We can’t possibly be experts at everything we want to teach and show you, and expert guests help us learn more about materials, tools, and just basic home information that is handy to pass along.
Also new this season is that we spent all of our time in real houses instead of in our studio. Not that we won’t go back, but with years under our belts taping in real homes, it felt good to get back in them and show you ideas and changes in a true home environment.
Because of the home “set”, we themed most of our season two shows with room names like “Kitchens”, Dining Rooms” and “Master Bedrooms” using the rooms in the homes we were in as examples. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? Yes, we sort of moved room by room through the house to build an entire season.

Highlights of the taping were having Lucy the dog on our set, no air-conditioning in the house in 95 degree weather, homemade black raspberry jelly as a breakfast snack on the craft services table, and the day Matt brought MaryAnn Donuts! Wow, looking back, we had a great time!
Expect the new season to start airing in your area around mid September, we think, but we’ll keep you informed!

Yep, this is the month that our show goes live! And what does that mean? Well, our show is available as of December 16th to any of the public television stations that want to carry it. So, now we need to let our stations know that we want “around the house with Matt and Shari” aired in our town!
It’s only been a week and we have already been placed in nearly 20 markets with the shows beginning to air anytime from Christmas Day through mid January. If you’d like to check to see if we are being aired in your neighborhood, just go click on the around the house button on the topic menu, then click on station finder on the around the house topic menu. Here you will insert your zip code or city and the station finder will let you know if our show is currently being aired in your town. It may take a couple weeks for you to see results since the show isn’t airing until Christmas Day.
We also have a button called current tv listings click on it to see in exactly which markets our show IS airing. Just remember, even if you can’t watch our show on tv, you can purchase the DVD set of the entire season.
Or, you could simply follow along with our season by checking out all the projects in the around the house section of our mattandshari site. In any case, stay tuned because we are currently searching for sponsors for 2011 which will include two new seasons of shows. I don’t know about you, but we can’t wait!!! |

Hi everyone! It’s the end of July, and Matt and I are in full swing with our brand new Public Television show called “Around the House with Shari and Matt”. To keep you up to date with our progress, behind the scenes activities, our fabulous sponsors and just all the folks and work it takes to get a new show on the air, we’ve decided to create this photo scrapbook.

On the 11th of August, after celebrating my kids’ birthday, one on the 9th and one on the 10th, I flew up to Cleveland and had the opportunity to see old friends, my Mom, visit favorite places, and spend every other minute taping segments!!
Matt shot the “shop” segments in his real shop – his garage, we did a bit of taping in his home since we were all there, and then finished up in the studio that our producer’s husband and son built for us! Kathie has a very talented family and they all get involved in her business. Her daughter ran the teleprompter when we needed it and we told her she had to quit school and be available for us she was such a pro!
