Bedding Dimensions

  Bedding Measurements C.pdfbedmeasure1

I can’t tell you how often I have had to recite the dimensions of a mattress to someone I’m with.  Seems crazy, but no one seems to know the difference between or the dimensions of any mattress.  Comforter sizes are usually a mystery as well, along with the basic measurements of a standard versus a queen pillow.

Well, never fear, a list is here!  Print it out, carry it with you, or just memorize it and amaze your friends.  Seriously though, it does come in handy when estimating the sizes of rooms, when considering the purchase of a hand made quilt, or when considering the amount of fabric required to make a dust ruffle or pillow case!

MattressSizes:

Crib  27” x 52”
Twin  39” x 75”
Full  54” x 75”
Queen 60” x 80”
King  78” x 80”

Bed Pillow Sizes:

Standard 20” x 26”
Queen 20” x 30”
King  20” x 36”

Comforter Sizes:

Twin  69” x 90”
Full  84” x 90”
Queen 90” x 95”
King  108” x 98”

T

he following dimensions are based on a mattress that is approximately 12” thick, and a box spring that measures 18” up from the floor to the top of the box spring.  Add these together and you have a bed that is about 30” up from the floor.  Measure yours to be sure you are using the correct dimensions.

Dust Ruffle Sizes:

For 18” drop:
Twin  75” x 93”
Full   90” x 93”
Queen 96” x 98”
King  114” x 98”

 Bedspread Sizes:
For a 30” drop
Twin  99” x 105”
Full  114” x 105”
Queen 120” x 110”
King  138” x 110”

Use these figures as estimates when you are out shopping and don’t have your exact dimensions with you.  It could save another trip to the store and that means more dollars for bedding!!

Question: If I am making a platform for my queen-sized matress, what dimensions should I use? I know you list the mattress size for a queen, but I will need the platform to be a bit larger so I can add the linens. Suggestions?

HI Marie! When I made my platform beds in the past, I didn't make the platform much bigger because if I was tucking the bedding, (comforter) around the mattress, I wanted it to be snug. If you want to make sure there is room I would thin an inch all the way around would be plenty.
