In real decorating for real people Matt and I take you step by step through every type of room in a home. We show you everything you need to do to get a room decorated. Just like with room by room, when you are done reading, you too will be an expert at getting any room decorated in a style that will function and be beautiful!
In each room, we start by talking about what is right in the room. So many people think everything is wrong, but it really helps to note the positives. It also saves money when you can see that there are things in the room that are working and can stay!
Of course there are always things that are wrong with the room and they are probably the reasons you are making changes. We walk you step by step through a variety of different “wrongs” in different rooms so you have an easier time finding them in your home.
We don’t keep you hanging either. There are several pages that explain the fixes to the problems as well. And after reading through pages and pages of fixes, you will be prepared with all sorts of ideas to fix things that may be wrong with your rooms.
Every room needs those little extras to make it your own, and those little extras are called accessories. This is my favorite part of every project and it can make or break the final design of the room.
You’ll find examples of floor plans for each room that are filled with ideas. Aside from giving an example of what a floor plan should look like, they teach furniture placement strategies, traffic patterns, window and door placement and focal point placement.
We all know it takes projects to complete a room, and this book has dozens of step by step projects from building cabinets to sewing draperies to making crafts that fit any room. You’ll be busy for hours and hours making furniture, pillows and artwork of your very own.
Every chapter ends with that all important after shot. The one that proves that all the hard work and planning was worth it.
